Dear friends,
I would like to share with you some news on a recent event which I participate in organizing - the opening ceremony of the HUT - VEFFA library. It was held in June the 12nd at Hanoi University of Technology (HUT), Hanoi, Vietnam. The library opening event received huge attention from the Vietnam Ministry of Science and Technology (MOSTE), HUT’s faculty and students, as well as from the media.
Vice Minister Tran Quang Thang of MOST; Professor Vo Van Toi, director of the Vietnam Education Foundation; HUT’s Vice Rector Prof. Nguyen Trong Giang and VEFFA former president Nguyen Viet Hung, current VEFFA Representative Tran Viet Hung attended and gave their speeches at the ceremony. Attendees at the ceremony are also a special representative from Vinh University (Vietnam); the VEFFA members who are in Hanoi, as well as the HUT’s students.
This is the direct result of VEFFA's 2007 VnBookDrive campaign, in which we collected more than 1000 college-level science and engineering textbooks from the US and transported them to Vietnam. They will be made available to Vietnamese students and researchers at HUT and other universities through HUT's library system.
Our 2008 campaign has started, aiming to double the number of books collected. If you have books to donate, please contact me at anguyen?@uiuc.edu (? = 7) or visit the project's website for more information.
Thank you!
