Nikon terrible customer support

E-mail Print PDF

(image from: http://members.optusnet.com.au/enchilada/b3ta/domophone.jpg)

I do not usually write on a topic similar to this, but I feel that this suprising fact should be spread. Nikon has established its reputation as one of the top brand in DSLR, i personally have a Nikon D90 and enjoy it very much. But their customer support is at the opposite side of the world. Very terrible!

My battery stopped working for no reason, so I want to get it repaired. I called J & R, the dealer which I bought my camera from and they forward me to Nikon. After entering a series of numbers to request talking to a customer representative, I was put on hold. 1 minutes, 2 minutes, 5 minutes... and then 15 minutes. It was Tuesday afternoon (CT zone), and how many customers do they have to support? I waited for 5 minutes, then call again... wasted another 10 minutes on the line. Being a bit angry and suprised, I made 2 other attempts, just to receive the same result (this time I was smarter, I turn on the external speaker so that I do not have to hold the phone).

Gave up on the phone line, I decided to go for email. Turn out Nikon does not allow you to send email directly, you have to register for an account. Seems reasonable if you want to track your conversation, but the problem is that the registration function is not working. I enter my email, my name and pick a password and click "Create account". It says "Submitting..." and then redirect me to the login page. But when I enter my username and password, it says "Incorrect username/password combination or the account has been disabled", the forget password button says: "We have no record of that username". Same thing for both Chrome and Firefox. You can give it a try here: http://support.nikontech.com/app/utils/login_form/redirect/ask

Now, I totally give up. That is enough for a battery. I should have bought a new one instead of wasting my time.

Favourite Quotes

E-mail Print PDF

This page contains my favorite quotes. Many of them help in guiding my lifestyle and  personalities:

1. "We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths." - Walt Disney.

This quote presents the spirit that every person should have. No matter how bad the situation is, find a way to move on, move forward.

2. "Share your knowledge. It's a way to achieve immortality."  - (Dalai Lama)

I am a very big fan of knowledge sharing. I believe that knowledge is indefinite and the best way to learn something is to learn it from experience of others. I am the founder, and administrator of ITBK, I am also organizing VN-Sec, a group of Vietnamese Security Researchers and managing VEFFA IT facilities. My main goal in these volunteering positions is to use information technology, as a tool, to spread knowledge and facilitate sharing of information.

3. "The man who knows something knows that he knows nothing at all " - Erykah Badu - On & On (music track).

Knowledge is unlimited and we know that :)

4. "We live under the same sky. But we don't see the same light" - Unknown

Bonjour Vietnam

E-mail Print PDF

Bonjour Vietnam - Pham Quynh Anh

Welcome to Vietnam!!!

Tell me about this name so strange and difficult to pronounce That I carry since I was born.

Tell me about the ancient empire and the feature of my “attached eyes”

Which say better than me what you don’t dare saying.

Of you I only know images of the war, a film of Coppola, [and] helicopters in anger...

One day, I will go there to say hello to your soul. One day, I will go there to say hello to you, Vietnam.

Tell me about the color of my skin, my hair and my small feet, Which carry me since I was born.

Tell me about your house, your street, tell me about this unknown, The floating markets and the wood sampans.

Of you I only know images of the war, a film of Coppola, [and] helicopters in anger...

One day, I will go there, to say hello to my soul.

One day, I will go there, to say hello to you, Vietnam.

Temples and stone Buddhas for my fathers Curved women in the rice plantations for my mothers

In the prayer, in the light, retrieve my brothers, Touch my heart, my roots, my land...

One day, I will go there to say hello to my soul. One day, I will go there to say hello to you, Vietnam

English version:

This is one of my favourite songs. It reminds me of my childhood, from the quiet rice fields to the crowded streets, from the Red river to the various lakes. It reminds me of my grandparents and parents, of Vietnamese people... They are very hardworking.

It reminds me of my country. I will be back, Vietnam!
